Wines Château Fonréaud

Château Fonréaud

$0.00

Château Fonréaud is well-known for its historic vineyard and the quality of its wines. Its name comes from a legend, and it enjoys a privileged location on the highest point in the Médoc.

Appellation: Listrac-Medoc

Region: Bordeaux

Grape Varieties: 52% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot

Vineyard: In 1962, Léo Chanfreau, a wine grower in Algeria, visited several châteaux in France. Seduced by Fonréaud, he acquired the wine-growing estate and decided to settle down with his family. Today, the vineyard is still operated by the family. Jean, Marie-Hélène, and Caroline Chanfreau-Philippon continue the family effort and ensure its modernization. Vine care constantly ensures a balance between the plant and its environment, with soil made of gravel and clay.

Winemaking: A strict selection of parcels and grapes takes place during the harvest. After gentle crushing and destemming, the must is put into small thermo-regulated vats, bringing out the expression, richness, and nuances of each plot. The vatting time lasts for 20 to 25 days, depending on the vintage.

Tasting Notes: Thanks to a subtle blend of grape varieties, the terroir comes through in round wines with ripe tannins and fine structure, developing a beautiful palate. Fine notes of spices are packed with intense red and black fruit aromas to deliver a velvety and balanced wine.

Rating:

Vintage 2016 : 91-93 Points Wine Advocate

Vintage 2015: 91 Points Wine Enthusiast, 92 Points Wine Advocate & Vinous
